| Description | This is a wine born from some of the best vineyards in Elciego and from the whole Rioja region. In a few years the 2012 vintage will have become legendary because it has everything needed to make a truly great wine. It didn’t reveal all its potential at first, but time will raise this vintage alongside the greatest ones. Frank Gehry is a wine which stands out for its stunning colour. In terms of aroma, it needs some oxygenation as it opens up and passes through the various phases. It shows elegance and determination, depth and many nuances. Ripeness and freshness, fruits, flowers and minerality. On the palate, it has everything you expect from a wine of the highest level: it is elegant, smooth and delicate. The mouth-feel of this wine is spectacular as it passes through. You can almost chew the body. It has tension, suppleness, balance, freshness and length. Its memory lingers and its tannins are present but are pure velvet. It’s a wine which caresses the senses. The second glass is better than the first when it warms up, because then it opens up and shows the vast range of nuances that it contains. It is a wine to sip slowly and savour at length. A wine of friendship, a wine of reflection. There is absolutely no hurry to enjoy every sip. It is not a wine for collection but for hedonism. A wine to enjoy now but that will get better in the next 2 or 3 decades and it will live for eternity. A worthy heir of the best that this historical house has given. Frank Gehry should be proud that a wine like this bears his name. It is the best wine to have been made under this label until now and one of the greatest wines in the last half century of the winery and in Spain. |
